Not only did I learn to play the three beautiful Gnossiennes, which took me roughly 4 weeks to master each of them technically, but even better: on the way, this course taught me by example how to conquer any piece of music: by separating hands, figuring out the fingering, dividing the piece into smaller parts, practicing all of this slowly over and over and over again, to put it back together in the end. At times I didn’t believe I’d ever be able to play the next section, but Robin explained clearly how to practice all the difficult parts. And the method works. I started to learn as a novice using old 61-keys synth with squeaking plastic keys. In three months I started thinking on buying a good piano and in eight months I recorded my performance using my own perfect instrument which I love so much and which, I believe, will help me to learn my favorite pieces. I am an amator and do not take real music lessons with a teacher. Robin's course helped me not only to learn to play three beautiful pieces but also pointed out many important things which you need to pay attention and this helps me to proceed with my studying as an amator.
I havent got rid of performance fear completely (do you think it is possible?), - even when just recording (alone) I perform worse then without recording. However some of Robin's practics helps to be prepeared to perform even when nervous from the beginning to the end with reasonable amount of mistakes.

This is an excellent course. I've finished Gnossienne #1 and am working on #2. Not sure if I will do #3 as I am a bit sated on Satie. But the techniques taught enable you to learn the pieces step by step until you perfect it to whatever standard you wish. For me, my playing of #1 is still a bit mechanical, but I can play it without looking at the music and really enjoy being able to. I don't like to sound like the old guy but I'm 68 and have never played piano (or keyboard in my case) before. NB I would recommend a piano if you have access. Electronic keyboards don't do the piece justice. Although I'm a bit over Satie I hope there will some new pieces by different composers in the future. I would definitely want to do those.

I thoroughly enjoyed this course.
I had heard Satie's Gymnopédies before, but not the Gnossiènes, and didn't really know what to expect. I initially found the musical scores a little overwhelming and intimidating when I first downloaded and looked at them, and doubted that I would be able to play them without a LOT of effort. Although I am not a complete beginner anymore and have been playing the piano for about a year now, Satie's pieces are not exactly easy!
But Robin has structured this course extremely well, breaking down each of the three pieces into logical sections. I loved learning these pieces in such a manageable, step-by-step way.
Although I have finished the course now, I realise that I will need to put in a lot more practice to feel really comfortable with the left hand jumps and chords and the strange-sounding right hand melodies, and to be able to bring it all together in a moving, expressive way - and to do so consistently, without errors.
Robin, thank you so much for guiding us through these beautiful pieces. I hope you'll offer more courses like this in the future.

I enjoyed this course as much as any course I've taken. It is a good length and very focused--it teaches one thing and teaches it really well. It provides a step-by-step walkthrough for playing Erik Satie's Trois Gnossienes on Piano. These are beautiful pieces and not too difficult to play, and Robin's method makes learning them really straightforward. I can now play through these pieces consistently, more or less by memory. My ability to read sheet music for piano improved significantly, though that is only a secondary emphasis in the course. Highly recommended for an adult learner with a tiny bit of piano who wants to master one piece. I'm already moving on to Robin's Bach course and looking forward to it.

Robin provides a wide variety of creative and interesting strategies for learning this piece, so if you persist, you can succeed, no matter what your learning style is. It does take a LOT of time, but it is definitely possible to get pretty good at the piece.
I especially appreciate Robin’s motivation and advice for making practice time more effective. I’m using these practice strategies on other pieces, so my playing has become more accurate since taking this class!

Being a lockdown newbie (actually sticking to learning the piano) and of later years I found the Erik Satie tutorials really really great. I toyed with The Pianoforall course before but never really stuck at it however with some perseverance and actually setting aside the time and practicing daily in small chunks I have surprised myself and can actually play sections A, B & C from memory in a relatively short time. I have just watched the video on finessing the way you play the piece and will be taking those tips onboard next session. The way Robin takes each section slowly and dissects each part really works for me and allows me to ingest before moving on. Think I have a surprise for the family when I play for them at Christmas, not a Christmas song but who cares! Brilliant and look forward to future piano tutorials if presented in the same or similar way.

But I have learnt how to play Gnossienne No1 (I started playing it fairly reasonably, within 24 hours, and polished my technique over the course of a week) and have now started to play Gnossienne No2. But I think I know enough about this course to comment. I have been studying Piano for All course by the same author. So I already know what to expect. I only have good thing to say. It does not matter whether you read music or not, or whether you read music a little bit. You will learn to play these pieces. Even if you don't want to learn to play sheet music. There are enough ways to get you there and find yourself playing these beautiful pieces by Eric Sati.

I am very much enjoying this course, it being well-structured. Although I can read music at a basic level, I find the various ways of remembering the left hand chords extremely useful. The pace of the sessions is perfect for me. I have a friend who plays a banjo and he can't read a note of music and uses lyrics with chords written above. For those who have been playing for 1 or 2 months, don't be afraid to tackle a proper piece. Just put in an 15 min on top of your normal practice and you'll be playing the haunting piece in a few weeks.

All I can say is if you are even just a LITTLE tempted or curious if this course is right for you then GET IT. I sincerely say to you, regardless of your experience on the keyboard or piano you will be able to play this exactly as you hear it. Even if you have never played anything At all. In fact, I will go so far as to say this and the other offerings should be the first music you ever play on the piano. You will learn in a way that will make everything else you ever learn much easier to not only play but actually retain. I have often learned something and then I go on to other things and when I come back to that particular piece of music that I spent so much time learning I forgot how to play it. It really makes you question your method of learning. I know there’s tons of choices out there and of course they are all THE best way to learn or they simply make promises that frankly fall short of your expectations. At the risk of overstating this, you will get what you expect with this course. It Will not disappoint you. You do not need to know any theory you do not need to know the notes of the piano you don’t need anything but a few minutes to ENJOY learning some beautiful music that you will be proud to share with ANYONE. Heck you will be able to walk up to a piano in the middle of a mall and start playing and people will gather around and applaud. Ok so before you start thinking I was paid to post this review I will end it here just let me mention one last thing. Whenever someone found out I played piano, most of the time they would ask me to play something and I never knew what to play for them. Now when people ask I play this or one of the Bach preludes that Robin also teaches and it NEVER fails to impress and imagine after playing something so beautiful and then they ask you how long you been playing and you say well including today I guess about a week lol Anyway, I really hope this review helps you. If I end up giving you that extra little nudge you needed to try this course then GREAT. Teaching like this needs to be supported. It’s rare and frankly it’s very inexpensive.

Because of its flexibility of use. You can match your own ability and time available that you have. Which means you are in complete control of your own progress. It has never been patronising. In order to gain from the course you do have to be disciplined to carry out regular study. I’ve found all the courses I’ve tried very well paced and logically presented with very clear instruction. If anything I’ve signed up for more courses than I have time to concentrate on but I find I can drop in and out of your courses and easily pick them up where I left off and so far not been bored by any. They are in fact all related to my interest in becoming better educated about jazz piano. I have been involved with music most of my life and I feel I’m making more progress than ever before.
One thing my be of interest l’m 87 years old.

I feel the way Robin teaches should be made a standard for contemporary music teaching.

I love the way the music is broken down into sections with Robin playing the part we are going to learn then showing us how to play each section first with one hand, then the other and finally both hands together. My confidence is growing every day. It's great that I can learn at my own pace and can watch and listen as often as I want or need to and not worry about how quickly or slowly I'm learning.
